Invented by the French watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1801, the tourbillon is a watch complication designed to improve the precision of mechanical watches by cancelling out the disturbances caused by gravity.
Although genuinely useful on pocket watches and less today on wristwatches, the tourbillon is still highly prized by lovers of Haute Horlogerie both for its special aesthetics and for its exclusivity.
